Running fast and efficient

Get thing done for startups is faster than traditional big company, but it doesn't mean startups running everything efficient. Contrary, running fast usually also running in the wrong directions and efficiency is result of combination of judgements, experiences and skills.

The world best manager can only make 70% of correct decision when came to "future of unknown". It is never easy. Most managers are going 55%, only slight better than flipper a coin. How to we improve it? Running fast and efficient!

This is really nothing new, exist both in ITIL and agile development, but we all tend to miss different part of it due to "personal interest" or "lack of interest".

First: Make sure you have a vision, goals and measurable items that continue improvement is possible. Think about (not necessary doing it) maintenance and operation, because cost over time are most likely not linear.

Second: Bring in right person for doing right thing. Don't reinvent wheel, most IT personnel like that (unfortunately it is not beginning of the millenium any more). If you have thought about maintenance and operation, you may choose another solution from the beginning. Do business valuable artefacts yourself, be lean and agile.

Third: Retrospective of first and second items and start improve. We all make mistakes (30%-50%). As long we haven't gone too far, it is easy to steering. Speed and Efficiency came with fewer people doing right things than a bunch people doing everything at same time.
